Tennova Newport Convalescent Center was identified as Cocke County’s second-largest nursing home in the first quarter of 2026, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Records indicate the facility offered 56 beds—47 fewer than the countywide average for the period. It supported an average daily census of 45.5 residents between January and March 2026.

The CMS gave Tennova Newport Convalescent Center a perfect overall score of 5 out of 5, exceeding the statewide nursing home average of 3 in Tennessee.

During that timeframe, Newport TN Opco, LLC led the county in bed capacity, operating 150 beds.

Tennova Newport Convalescent Center reported zero fines or penalties for the first quarter of 2026.

During this period, Cocke County was home to two for-profit nursing facilities.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show the nation’s older adult population continues to expand, even as those under 18 age groups shrink. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans 65 and older grew by 13%, while the number of individuals under 18 declined 1.7%. This older population has grown sharply during the past 100 years, rising from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 report estimates nearly half of these individuals—roughly 28 million people—may ultimately require long-term services and support, with projections showing more than one-third may eventually need nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
