Coach of the Year

Ashley Tiernan: Guiding a nine-match turnaround, Tiernan led the Eagles to a South Atlantic Conference Mountain Division Championship, the SAC Tournament title match and a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Winning 27 matches, the unit recorded the fourth-most victories for a single-season in school history and five different players earned postseason honors.

Mike Clowney: Mike Clowney oversaw the third-largest win turnaround in Carson-Newman football history. The Eagles went from a one-win team in 2021 to a winning record in 2022. Carson-Newman closed the year with a three-game winning streak. All told, 13 Eagles earned All-SAC honors under his tutelage.

Mike Spooner: In just his second season as the head coach, Spooner was able to lead the men's cross country team to 8th place in the region, the team's highest ranking since 2003. The season was highlighted by three All-Conference runners, and two All-Region runners. The regular season's best finish came at the Asics Invitational, a race featuring multiple D1 schools, where the Eagles finished third out of 13 on both the men's and women's side. The men's team improved to 5th in the SAC after finishing 9th in the conference last year.

Watch List: Chuck Benson, Mike Mincey, Ben Young, Randy Wylie
