Team Performance of the Year

Volleyball vs Lander: Against a Lander team that would earn the No. 5 seed in the Southeast Region, the Eagles earned a sweep against the Bearcats for their 20th win of the season. Posting a .275 hitting percentage, five Eagles tallied at least seven kills in the match and Hayden Barton registered the 1,000th dig of her career.

Football v. Newberr:  Carson-Newman turned in a defensive performance for the ages, limiting the Wolves to 17 yards of offense after halftime en route to collecting a win over a top-10 team and the 650th victory in program history. The Eagles scored the final 24 points in the contest to take a 24-14 decision from the Wolves.  With the victory, Carson-Newman becomes the fourth NCAA Division II school with 650 wins all-time.  C-N joins Pittsburg State, Tuskegee and Hillsdale with 650 or more victories.  The Eagles chalk up their first win over a top-10 team since beating No. 5 North Alabama 24-21 in the quarterfinals of the NCAA playoffs in 2009 and their 14th since becoming a NCAA Division II school.  Carson-Newman's last win at Burke-Tarr Stadium was also against Newberry.  The Eagles handed then No. 9 Newberry a 49-14 loss on Sept. 29, 2007.

Men's Basketball v. Southern Wesleyan: Southern Wesleyan made a three on its opening possession, but then Carson-Newman rattled off a 16-0 run in the next three minutes to set the tone for what would become the sixth-largest margin of victory in school history.  The Eagles prevailed 109-58 – Carson-Newman's first 50+-point win in 37 years, its 10th overall and its first as a member of NCAA Division II. Southern Wesleyan never trailed by anything other than double-digits after Carson-Newman's opening haymaker.  The Eagles put up 61 points in the first half behind 60-5 percent shooting and a 10-of-17 effort from long range.

Volleyball v. Anderson: Facing an Anderson team that won 21 matches and was ranked fourth in the Southeast Region, the Eagles hit .274 and limited the Trojans to a .062 hitting margin in a straight set win at Holt Fieldhouse. It was the first time all year that Anderson hit below .100 for the year as Emmagrace Cobb hit .615 and Blake Cherry added 19 digs

Men's XC @ Regionals: The men's cross country team finished 8th at the 2022 NCAA D2 Southeast Regionals after finishing Fifth in the conference two weeks earlier. Fifth place marks the highest finish for the men's team since the 2003 season. Brent Borden led the Eagles with a time of 33:10.5 and a 43rd place finish. Freshman Colten Lee was just the fifth Freshman to finish when he crossed the line a spot behind Borden with a time of 33:18.3. The men's team finished with a score of 273, an average time of 33:54, and a total time of 2:49:30 to earn an eighth place in the 10K race

Swimming v Emory & Henry: Carson-Newman Swim finished the last meet of 2022 with a substantial win over Emory & Henry resulting in a final team score of 327-74. The Eagles placed first in every event of the meet in both men's and women's events. 10 different women's swimmers placed first in at least one event as the women contributed 165 points to the overall score. Rachel  Peden received SAC Varsity Gems Women's Swimmer of the Week accolades for her performance against Emory & Henry during week eight of the season. She finished first in the women's 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:59.31 and was the only swimmer who completed the race in under 11 minutes. Peden finished 14 seconds ahead of her second-place competition. The men contributed 162 points to the overall team score, and seven different men's swimmers finished at least one event in first-place. Jakov Igrec was named SAC Varsity Gems Men's Swimmer of the Week for his first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (1:59.31) and third-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:37.72). The Eagles finished the meet with 17 different first-place finishers and 327 points against Emory & Henry.

WSOC vs Wingate: Against the eventual South Atlantic Conference champions, C-N dominated Wingate, taking down the Bulldogs 3-1. Freshman Selina Jud scored her first career goal to get the scoring started in the 22nd minute. Late in the first half, sophomore Sydnee Duncan booted home C-N's second goal of the half. She scored a second goal in the 68th minute to help create separation from the Bulldogs. The win was C-N's second consecutive win against an unbeaten team. The victory also extended the Eagles home unbeaten streak to eight games.

Women's Basketball vs #8/3 North Georgia: Tallying its largest win over a nationally-ranked team in school history, Carson-Newman pounded North Georgia 92-61. The Lady Eagles had won by a total of 25 points over its last five victories against top 25 teams and recorded five total double-digit wins against ranked foes since 2008 before winning by 31 on Saturday. The prior high was beating No. 23 Newberry by 20, 66-46, on Dec. 3, 2016. Five players scored in double figures as the team shot 54 percent from the field for the game and piled up 56 points after halftime.
