For the first quarter of 2026, Jefferson County Nursing Home ranked as the county’s second largest nursing facility, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows.
According to collected data, the center offered 160 beds—10 more than the Jefferson County average for the same period—and cared for an average of 146.6 residents each day.
Jefferson County Nursing Home earned a CMS overall rating of 4 out of 5, surpassing the Tennessee average score of 3 among nursing homes.
Jefferson City Health and Rehab Center was the county’s largest nursing home in the quarter, providing 170 beds, while Life Care Center of Jefferson City ranked third with 121 beds available.
Jefferson County Nursing Home reported no fines or penalties during the initial quarter of 2026.
The county had two publicly operated nursing facilities in Tennessee at that time.
U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the country’s population of older adults keeps climbing, as numbers of younger individuals decrease. Between 2020 and 2024, the number of Americans age 65 and older rose by 13%, compared to a 1.7% decline in residents under 18. The nation’s older adult population has expanded significantly over the last century, growing from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.
A 2021 brief reported that close to 28 million adults in this age group—almost half—may require long-term services and supports. The study further estimates that over one-third could eventually need care in a nursing facility.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
