Carson-Newman sophomore forward Ren Dyer (Weaverville, N.C.) has been lauded as the Tennessee Sportswriters’ Association State Player of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.
Dyer picks up his first weekly accolade of the season and his second of his career from the TSWA. He picked up state player of the week honors as a true freshman on Jan. 17, 2021.
The sophomore helped Carson-Newman to a 1-1 week with a 112-76 win over Johnson and a narrow 58-56 loss to Columbus State.
The Weaverville, N.C.-native averaged 17 points, 13.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game for the week. He shot 48.1 percent from the field, made 37.5 percent of his threes and canned 5-of-6 shots at the free throw line.

He produced his third and fourth double-doubles of the season. He started the week with a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double against Johnson, before finishing with an 18-point, 16-rebound double-double against Columbus State.
The 16 boards he collected versus the Cougars are tied for the sixth-most in a single-game in school history.
Dyer now has 11 double-doubles for his career. Carson-Newman is 10-1 when he goes for 10 and 10.
