Carson-Newman (1-1-2) begins South Atlantic Conference play with a road test against Anderson (3-1-1) on Saturday.

The Eagles are coming off a 1-1 tie with Nova Southeastern last Saturday. C-N trailed after allowing a 25th minute goal, before sophomore defender Alisha Heiniger took advantage of a corner kick in the 73rd minute to help the Eagles battle back to tie the match.

C-N’s top goal scorer is sophomore Nellie Bryneus who has two goals this season. Sanne Martinsen, Jente Kuper, Maja Bengtsson and Heiniger have scored the other four goals for the Eagles this season. The Eagles have assisted on five of their six goals. All five assists are by different players.

Senior Addie Henry is the team leader in shots with 14. Henry and Bryneus both have a team high seven shots on goal. C-N is averaging 18 shots per contest, with over 50 percent of those shots going on goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Laura Germes has five saves and one clean sheet in the three games she has started for C-N this season.

The Eagles play three of their first four conference games on the road.

Anderson (3-1-1) is off to its best five game start to a season since 2016-17, when it began 4-1. The Trojans are ranked 10th in the first Southeast Region Poll of the 2022 season.

The Trojans have outscored their opponents 13-3 to begin the season. All three goals allowed came in the Trojans only loss of the season against North Georgia.

Freshman Camryn Woods leads the team with four goals scored. Seven other Trojans have scored this season. Senior Jeanette Campbell has started all five games in goal. She has 18 saves, which ranks 2nd in the SAC.

Anderson began conference play on Wednesday tying with nationally ranked Wingate 0-0.

“Their well-coached, they have some really good players,” Coach Simon Duffy said. “The biggest thing is that want to win, that desire to win and the competitiveness in our players. I think if we can get out and score early, that will be big for us.”

Carson-Newman has won seven straight meetings against Anderson. C-N leads the all-time series 8-4-1.

Since 2017, C-N is 18-4-1 on the road versus SAC opponents.

C-N has won seven straight road openers in SAC play.

Saturday’s match kicks off at 5:00 p.m. from Trojan Stadium. Be certain to follow Carson-Newman athletics on twitter at @cn_eagles for live updates.
